Welcome to McEachron Elementary School for the 2019-2020 school year. I am proud to say that this is my 20th year as principal of McEachron, 24th year as an elementary principal and 35th year teaching in pubpc education. I am looking forward to another great year!

I graduated from Lakin High School in Lakin, Kansas in 1980 and enjoyed building furniture & houses, playing guitar & singing, riding my mountain bike and working in the yard. I attended McPherson College in McPherson, Kansas where I received a Bachelors of Arts Degree in K-12 Vocal and Instrumental Music in January of 1985. I subbed long term in McPherson, Kansas during the spring semester until I began teaching vocal music in Ark City, Kansas for the next seven years. I met my wife Rebecca on July 4, 1991 while I was working on my Masters of Science in K-12 Administration from Emporia State University in 1994. I married my wife Rebecca on July 4, 1992 and moved to Kansas City where I taught vocal music in Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools for four years. We moved to Scott City, Kansas with our two children Benjamin and Claire where I was Elementary Principal for four years. We wanted to be closer to family in Topeka and Kansas City so I applied for the Elementary Principal position here at McEachron in 2000 and we have truly loved our time giving and working here in Topeka Public Schools and being a part of the McEachron School family.

This is also McEachron's 58th Year of Providing Quality Education to students. We are all glad that the new construction of the new gym, library, ten new classrooms, primary and intermediate playground areas, new driveway, parking area has officially been completed. The faculty, staff, School Improvement Team and Parent Teacher Organization at McEachron Elementary continue their dedication and support in providing the best possible education for your child.

Effective learning involves a partnership of students, teachers and parents/guardians. Your children need your help, and we also need your involved support by supporting our school's staff, PTO meetings & events and school-wide activities. You can best help by seeing that your children spend time on reinforcing school skills at home and put forth their best effort.

If you want your children to get the best education, you will . .

Make all-day school attendance a priority by being to school on time and making appointments such as dentist's before or after school or on days when there is no school.
Make sure student's book bags are checked daily for student work and school newsletters, monthly calendars or teacher notes.
Check to see homework is completed before students go to bed at night, not just ask
Encourage positive attitudes toward school
Allow your children to accept responsibilities as a critical part of their learning

The most successful children come from homes where . . .

Reading is modeled and shared and families take plenty of time talking with and listening to one another. (We hope that you are encouraging your students to read 20 minutes each night.)
Feel they are vital, contributing members of their families with important responsibilities and chores.
Know that the final responsibility for learning belongs to them. "If it is to be, it is up to me!"

The staff and I will be working together again this year to offer your children an educational program that respects their developmental levels and learning styles. We all look forward to working with you, and are especially grateful for the opportunity to share in your children's education.

We care,

Vic Williams, Principal

Together...we can make a difference! "To Know, To Do, To Be, The Best!"
